Pierce the ears with hypoallergenic studs since these are the ideal types of earrings to be used when piercing ears. Continue to wear earrings that are hypoallergenic for at least 6 months before using the non-hypoallergenic types to prevent any allergic reactions. You should also avoid wearing dangling earrings until 6 to 12 months has passed.

How To Care For Newly Pierced Ears

Your newly pierced ears are easily susceptible to germs and it’s vital you clean them at least twice a day (morning and evening) with a suitable antiseptic prescribed to you from the place you got the ears pierced.

Hydrogen peroxide has been used for some years to clean newly pierced ears. Take a cotton ball and put some hydrogen peroxide in it and gently clean around the piercing on both sides: front and back of the ear.

When cleaning each piercing make sure to turn each earring from side to side. This ensures the antiseptic reaches the pierced opening and prevents germs from getting into it.

You should also make it a point to place your thumb at the back of the ear stud and gently push it forward. Then push the front of the ear stud backwards.  This should be done 2 to 3 times a day to prevent any skin formation on the earrings. There have been cases when skin has grown over the earrings of those with newly pierced ears.

In the event your ears become extremely sore and red and get infected with pus go to the doctor immediately and get it treated.
