How to Apply Eye Shadow

History Of Eye Shadow

In ancient times eye shadow was used extensively in EgyptGreece and Rome to enhance the beauty of the eyes.

Today it’s one of the main products manufactured by a wide range of cosmetic companies with L’Oreal, Revlon, Lancôme and Constance Carroll to name a few.

Ancient Egypt was the first civilization to have used kohl to enhance the beauty of their eyes. Kohl as many of you know is the ingredient used today in producing the most sought after pencil eyeliner.

It was only in the 20th century that the eye shadow we use today was first created.

How To Choose Eye Shadow

Two things to keep in mind prior to applying eye shadow is choosing the correct type of eye shadow primer to apply on the eyelids and also the three eye shadow colors which will blend together perfectly.

An eye shadow primer acts as a base to keep the eye shadow on the eye lids for a longer period of time. Always choose a light cream colored primer as there will be a less chance of it clashing with the colors of the eye shadow you apply on the eyelid.

When choosing your eye shadow colors pick colors that are light, medium and dark and make sure the colors co-ordinate with each other. Once you’ve chosen the colors you are ready to apply the eye shadow onto your eye lids.

How To Apply Eye Shadow

First apply the eye shadow primer on to your eye lids with the help of a make up sponge. Dust some translucent powder over the eye shadow primer to prevent it from going down the eye lid.

Then with the help of an eye shadow brush apply the lightest eye shadow color to the entire eye lid including the brow bone.

Next apply the medium eye shadow color along the lower lid of the eye and working all the way to the end of the corner of the eyelid.

Finally apply the darkest color and this should be to the crease of the eye lid.

Once you've applied the eye shadow apply eyeliner and mascara.
